Flint, Michigan Native, Jon Connor Releases Hot Mixtapes

By Kevin Tshiamala

I don’t recommend anyone rap over the work of two legendary artists such as Kanye West and the late Notorious B.I.G., but when a reliable source sends you an email putting their career on the line over a couple mixtapes, you drop your biases and listen — and I’m sure glad I did for Jon Connor is not only the best new rapper in the game, but he will have the type of longevity as his “Big Brothers” Em, Cube and Dre.

This review will be short. Not that the music doesn’t warrant a lengthy explanation, but because the lyrics of Jon Connor have garnered such a separation, that the work speaks for itself. Jon Connor just recently released two mixtapes. One titled, The Late Registration of a College Dropout Who Had A Dark Twisted Fantasy of 808s and Heartbreak, and the other titled Best in the World: A Tribute to Notorious B.I.G. Vol 1. One is hosted by DJ Drama and the other DJ Khaled. Both are spectacular.

Jon Connor’s lyrics are meaningful, his flow suspenseful, and determination insurmountable. From song to song you get a peek into the life of Jon: the heartache, the struggle, the pain, the gain, success, fame and shame. Not to mention us who grew up around Metro Detroit, Flint, and Pontiac can appreciate and be proud of the way Connor represents our city and state. Furthermore, these two mixtapes add to the conversation of the original beats/songs by Kanye West and Biggie, rather than just using them for exposure. Many view this as a call out; instead it is the ultimate act of respect – a tip of the hat to you Jon Connor. Make sure to keep an eye out for more Jon Connor releases.

You heard it here first. Jon Connor is here to stay; best in the world. #ConnorSeason Begins.
