HEAR’s first cover artist, Bassnectar, prepares to thump Grand Rapids
By Ryan Lapointe
Lorin Ashton, AKA Bassnectar has been going hard since he graced the cover of
HEAR’s inaugural issue. In the last 2 years, he released two widely acclaimed albums, Divergent Spectrum and Vava Voom along with the Freestyle EP and the newly released Immersive Music Mixtapes. Imagine doing all this while touring the world including festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Ultra, and Detroit’s own Orion amongst many others. Yes, Bassnectar is a self described “workaholic,” evident by the fact he released more music this year than any other, without an LP. HEAR’s Ryan Lapointe had a chance to catch up with Lorin on things since they last had spoken before his sold out Detroit shows last fall. Listen to the audio to hear them discuss Orion Music and More, his new project UNS (Ultimate Nerd Server), his process of making the remix of Ellie Goluding’s “Lights”, his charity and his drug free lifestyle.
