Over the years for almost two decades Dirtfest has evolved and grown and once again this Michigan favorite will not disappoint as Dirtfest 2014 quickly approaches with an amazing line-up. With artist like Killswitch Engage, Powerman 5000, Sid of Slipknot (aka DJ Starscream), Chimaira, Hed PE, Nonpoint, Nothing More, Blue Felix, Gemini Syndrome, Detroit’s own Battlecross, Tantric, the always fun Psychostick and many, many more this year is shaping up to be the best Dirtfest yet.
Founder Matt Dalton told HEAR “We started Dirtfest because there was nothing like it in the area and we saw a need for an event like this. It started growing and we kept adding stages and more bands and attractions, succeeding with some things, failing with others but having fun with it all. The main thing that separates Dirtfest and other festivals is that we allow re-entry and aren’t trying to take advantage of a captive audience. We offer conveniences in the venue but if you want to leave you’re free to come and go.” This means no more having to carry your merch all day long or forced to pay for overpriced food or drinks. HEAR was assured that all onsite vendors are reasonably priced and ready to serve!
With over 50 bands on six stages there will be lots of musical talent on hand as well as autograph signings from many artist, a jousting ring, dunk tank and other forms of entertainment for Dirtfest attendees. Justin Foley (drummer) from Killswitch Engage told HEAR “I love playing festivals like this. They’re always fun and with a wide spectrum of bands you have the chance to expand your audience. These festivals can be long days and it’s great to see who stays around to see you when you play at the end.”
Up and coming Texas rockers Nothing More have been blowing up as they tour the country on the heels of releasing their newest album and Dirtfest is excited to have them in the line-up. Singer Jonny Hawkins told HEAR “Just the sheer size of festival shows make them exciting. It’s an amazing line-up but I’m looking forward to seeing Hed PE live for the first time.”
