This weekend, Chicago will welcome another set of incredible DJ’s spinning at one of the most exciting musical festivals of the year, Spring Awakening.

With a jam-packed three day festival full of aspiring DJs and musical prodigies that have introduced EDM to an array of musical enthusiasts while simultaneously giving it a brand new identity, it’s no question that this year’s line-up will have a variety of all types of electronic genres. The line-up features many renowned and recognized names such as Tiesto, Eric Prydz, Bingo Players, Diplo, Benny Benassi, Kaskade, Steve Aoki, and many more.

Then, there are those that many may wonder about; many DJs have resided in other parts of the country, moreover other parts of the world. First day of Spring Awakening Music Festival, the line-up is set with the founding fathers of our precious electronic dance movement and among those is Markus Schulz, who is a German-American trance DJ with six successful albums under his belt: Without You Near (2005), Progression (2007), Do You Dream? (2010), Screami (2012), and Scream 2 (2014). Two of these albums, Thoughts Become Things (2009) and Thoughts Become Things II (2011), have been released under the name DAKOTA, which were all released under the Armada Music record label.

Markus Schulz has worked with a number of talented artists and his collaborations include the likes of Depeche Mode, Madonna; however, it has been his seven year residency at The Works in Pheonix, Arizona that has helped him in developing his musical style. After the discovery, Markus Schulz has spun at festivals as massive as EDC, Electric Zoo, Monster Massive, Together As One, Ultra Music Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event, Nature One, Dance Valley, Love Parade, Global Gathering, Creamfields, ETD Pop, Trance Energy and many more. He has felt comfortable enough to create a musical label for he is the founder of Coldharbour Recordings label as well as Schulz Music Group (SMG), which is an artist management group that discovers new talent — similar to venture capitalists firm. His musical success has brought him to supreme heights throughout his career; he has created a weekly radio show that airs on Digitally Imported radio, ‘Global DJ Broadcast’.

Saturday, the second day of Spring Awakening, with the raging fans and the rest of line-up in full swing, Sander van Doorn will take the stage. Listed as the #18 DJ in the world, this Dutch wunderkind has been awarded the honor of the Best Breakthrough DJ award at the International Music Awards at the Miami Winter Music Conference beating Calvin Harris, Deadmau5, and Axwell in the process; he has released two studio albums, Supernaturalistic (2008) and Eleve11 (2011),  under the Spinnin’ Records music label. Check out his newest track, “Goldskies” featuring Martin Garrix and DVBBS.

Prior to the start of his solo music journey, he has collaborated with acts such as Robbie Williams and remixed tracks for artists such as Sia, Swedish House Mafia, Depeche Mode, and Lady Gaga.
