We had the pleasure of meeting up with the man, the myth, the legend at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Chicago this past Memorial Day, 2013. We are sharing our delightful video interview with him that discusses his current projects, upcoming projects, and award-winning career. We also caught up with him a few weeks ago to capture an enthralling audio update of Vello’s life works, included here.

Vello is a Chicago native and currently lives in Hollywood, California where he manages his award-winning business, V Squared Labs. Vello is acknowledged in the industry for his exceptional talent. Kryoman and even HEAR Magazine, among many others, purport him as being the best VJ in the world.

This Friday, November 15, 2013, one of Vello’s newest creations, the Vortex Lumen, will be in full effect with one of the most visually stimulating and awe-inspiring shows. It is a combination with the unparalleled dubstep musical bliss brought to you by Canadian sensation Troy Beetles a.k.a. Xbox Live username: Datsik.

On the heels of Vello’s 40th birthday bash and the grand opening of the V Squared Labs new state-of-the-art studio in Los Angeles, Vello Virkhaus has an extensive list of complicated projects to be proud of ranging from Krewella’s Volcano Stage to Infected Mushrooms double trouble circle stages to the technological miracle set to embark on Pontiac, Michigan tomorrow, Datsik’s Vortex Lumen.

Datsik may generally be a “newer” name in the electronic scene but he has reached deep into the heart and soul of dubstep with his aggressive and raw style. What he has emerged with is a distinctive sound and a brand new record label Firepower Record’s that will shape the way we hear the heavier side of dubstep for a long time to come.

In August of 2008, Datsik attended the Shambhala Music Festival in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. It is Canada’s largest electronic music festival and has been held annually since 1998 in the Kootenay Mountains of BC. It is not far from Troy’s hometown of Kelowna where on that night, he saw another Kelowna native perform, Jeff Abel a.k.a. Excision. The two began working together right away. Since then, Datsik has been working on creating his own distinct, dirty sound with his hardcore style. Datsik reflects his musical roots with influence from Wu-Tang Clan, which is exemplified in tracks like “Evilution” with Jonathan Davis of Korn.

From the start, with his dark dubstep sound, he put out seven number one tracks on Beatport. As a dubstep artist and probably the first one to do so, Datsik had five of the top ten downloaded tracks at one time. Datsik immediately emerged in the scene and began working with Excision, 12th planet, and Funtcase. In 2012 Datsik brought us Vitamin D released under Dim Mak Records. This was his debut album with contributions from Downlink and singles featuring Snak The Ripper and Z-Tripp among others.

DATSIK_PressShotIn early 2013, Datsik released the Cold Blooded (part one) EP under Firepower Records. It included seven heavy hitting tracks like “Vindicate” featuring Excision and “Automatik” featuring Messinian, another Beatport number one track. The second half of 2013 brought even more good news from the Firepower camp with his part two album release of Let It Burn. This ten track onslaught of bass is full of catchy lyrics and massive drops. Hear it for yourself from Firepower records with a free download of Let It Burn from: https://secure.prd.cr/download/1/datsik-let-it-burn-lp-part-two.

As soon as Let It Burn was released, Datsik and the entire Firepower crew got ready for Rockstar Energy’s Firepower Most Wanted Tour, continuing all the way thru 2014 across North America. Heroes x Villains will be supporting Datsik on the tour along with fellow Firepower Records dub hop producer Protohype, and many more. To add to the experience, the club pounding dub producers are bringing in an extra 50,000 watts of bass provided by PK sound. The cherry on the top is a one-of-a-kind state-of-the-art Vortex. Vortex is a ground breaking DJ booth with vortex lumen and a real time 3-D mapping visual screen designed to push the limits of mind altering visuals created by V-Squared Labs.

With some of dubsteps heaviest hitters and a one-of-a-kind Vortex, this is not a tour to miss. Firepower’s most wanted tour will be at Royal Oak Music Theatre Friday, November 15th. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are still available. For more information and for tickets, visit Datsik’s official web page at: www.Firepowerrecords.com.
