On Friday, October 18th, legendary musician and producer, Ramble John “RJ” Krohn, otherwise known as RJD2, performs at Elektricity in Pontiac, and tickets are still available. RJD2 recently released a new album which has people cranking their stereos to the evolved sounds of vintage funk and soulful instrumentals.

More Is Than Isn’t is RJD2’s fifth proper full-length LP on his own label RJ’s Electrical Connections imprinting. RJ’s jazzy inspired melodies and rhythms keep fans on the edge of their seats, as every phrase transitions into something groovier and more adventurous. The instrumentals explore an eclectic range which mimics RJ’s love for mixing genres and creating mash-ups like no other artist in today’s market. Featured vocalists include Phonte Coleman (Little Brother, Foreign Exchange), Aaron Livingston (Icebird, The Roots), rappers Blueprint, P. Blackk and STS, and Khari Mateen.

More Is Than Isn’t is a compilation of seamless syntheses with an organic feel from our Philadelphian mastermind. The 16-track album has numerous passionate cuts, along with straight up hip-hop tracks. RJ taps into his early Oregon roots with the melodic freedom and unlimited exploration within his song “Temperamental.” It has a sweet Fall feel to it with the refreshing sounds of Phonte Coleman. This album is full of pleasant surprises and twists. Every track has its own unique sound in which the harmony weaves and flows together creating a story spliced only by RJ himself.

RJD2’s music career has been a long, steady climb to the top with his Deadringer debut, as well as his second album Since We Last Spoke, which rocked the charts in the early 2000’s. In 2007, RJ brought to the world The Third Hand. RJ’s talent and popularity exploded with his “A Beautiful Mine,” which became the theme song for AMC’s Mad Men.
