May 9th

There has been a steady network brewing withing the underground techno community of Detroit. These networks and connections have provided a steady stream of unbelievable parties, raves, and concerts throughout the Metro area. Previously in the dark, over the past few years the underground community has surfaced and many of their events that were once unknown have become easily marketable to the public thanks to Facebook and other social media forums. For the after parties, well you’ll still have to be in the know.

Our friends over at Comfort Food who have had great success with their original series of events at the Grasshopper Underground are teaming up with FSdaYum and My Baby to continue their success with a new event series at TV Lounge. Every Second Friday at TV Lounge, said network will be hosting noteworthy events. With the calm Spring weather and Summer on the horizon, the TV Longe patio is open, the vibe is right and the music legendary. The first event of this new series will take place this Saturday, May 9th featuring:

STONE OWL – (Trapez, Thoughtless Music, MBF Ltd.)
Injecting the hard, driven soul, of the city of Detroit, into their huge rolling bass lines, deep harmonies, and body-jacking rhythms, Stone Owl claims a timeless sound all their own. They produce art that treads the border of techno and deep house, and has that dirty nastiness that you expect from Detroit.

Chuck Flask began Dj’ing in the Detroit underground scene in 1996, developing his own style that seamlessly transitions through minimal, Detroit techno and house to appease any audience. In 2001, Chuck joined Paxahau as a resident DJ and production coordinator. In 2006 Chuck was given the responsibilities of talent buyer for MOVEMENT Electronic Music Festival.

Bruce Bailey is one of the original greats in a long list of Detroit DJ Royalty. While collecting vinyl since his youth, Bailey honed his craft during the city’s gritty techno emergence in the 80’s. His roots are dug deeply in the city’s local music scene as he headlines an endless array of events for Detroit’s esteemed Tandem Entertainment Company, which Bailey co-founded. Bailey has a chameleon-like style and can be heard playing a great mixture of sultry vocals combined with some seriously energetic big room hits.

Tag team back again. Come witness the city’s most promising tag team duo. Sparks fly and magic flows when these two join forces behind the decks. Shifting from hip hop to house music this pair leaves no beat un-turned.

RTST / BANGLES – (Cutz on Cuts Chicago)
Meet 2 of the founding members from the legendary Cutz on Cuts crew out of Chicago. They are gracing us with a special tag team set featuring fine turntablism, hip hop, funk, soul and house beats.

Teej’s style has mostly been built on smooth, poignant hip hop instrumentals that bring the soul, but also keep you moving. He is  Comfort Food’s original resident. He’s played almost every Tuesday at the Grasshopper Underground for the last year and his unique sound has acquired quite the audience along the way. Without him, I don’t even think Comfort Food would be happening.

With this well rounded line up we couldn’t be more excited. Hear Magazine will be present shooting photos, getting loose and grooving till the sun comes up. Join us on this voyage through live production, masterful tag team sets, hip hop, turntablism, funk, soul, house music and techno. These are the sounds that make Detroit such a great place to live. It‘s time to celebrate! See you there.
