Golf Clap at Movement 2014
By Ryan Solecki
As Memorial Day approached and passed, Hart Plaza served as the epicenter of Detroit for one of the biggest music festivals, Movement, which attracts walks of life from all over the world. All kinds of musicians were taking the stage May 24th-26th from local legends to some of the biggest names in electronic music. Amongst them was Real Detroit’s 2014 Best Electronic Artist, Golf Clap.
No matter what stage, Hugh Cleal and Bryan Jones give unpredictable and unforgettable sets. At the festival this year, who knew what could have happened on Sunday when they hit the Made In Detroit stage at 2:00 p.m. Last year the boys booked over hundred fifty shows spanning both coasts and if possible, after seeing them perform on Sunday and throughout the weekend, they seem to only be getting busier and better.
Along with their new record label launch, Country Club Disco, new EP Future with full length to follow, an all weekend after party series to promote the new label, Golf Clap also introduced some new merchandise. Through Roland’s ARIA line and Sennheiser sponsorships Golf Clap had brand new gear available at their Movement tent, which was fantastic.
In preparation for their performance on Sunday, Cleal and Jones fused together an entire 24 Hour Marathon mix, available via their soundcloud. It’s a four part deep house mix that brought Golf Clap’s after party success to light on Sunday.
Cleal and Jones have only been together as Golf Clap since January of last year. Ever since then they have grown into some of the genre’s giants, perfecting what they refer to as “peak hour deep house.” Sunday’s performance included more than Cleal and Jones behind the ones and twos. Along with their sound, which has brought them mass recognition, their on stage antics brought an energetic crowd that could not stop moving their feet.
The not so new kids on the block, Golf Clap, set on Sunday at the Made in Detroit stage was a raving success.
