Summer’s Last Stand // North Coast Music Festival Chicago

Written By Bethany and Brandon Weems, and Joy Phoenix

The windy city hosts the final kick of summer, North Coast Music Festival, in Union Park featuring legendary talent The Chemical Brothers, Steve Aoki, Porter Robinson, and Chicago native Green Velvet among more than 25 acts of massively skilled DJ’s and live bands.

Labor Day marks the three-day weekend synonymous with the wind down of summer, the impending school start up, and flagging the end of the traditional festival season. It’s time to rally the troops and kick up your heels once more. We are stoked to be covering the one and only North Coast Music Festival boasting of the return of the silent disco and “Living Gallery” art exhibit. If you see us say hello, get a picture, make some memories, and enjoy the evolution of the Chicago electronic music scene with us!

It’s been an eventful summer following the America’s Best DJ Summer Tour and we’re nearing the finish line with our last batch of dates in sight. ABDJ is a yearly DJ competition presented by Pioneer DJ & DJ Times. DJ Times collect ballots and gives voters a chance to win a trip for two to San Diego for the official ABDJ Crowning Ceremony/Closing Party at Omnia on October 11. Starting Memorial Day weekend at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival Movement and running through Labor Day votes are collected at the countries premiere music festivals as well as through online voting.

Time is running out to vote make sure your voice is heard and cast your vote for America’s Best DJ 2015 online at Reminder: voting closes at 11:59 PM on Monday, September 7, so don’t miss your chance to vote and win!

The HEAR Magazine team will be in full force all three days with plans to catch Widespread Panic, Knife Party, and The Glitch Mob Friday. Saturday will be full of Steve Aoki, Porter Robinson, Shpongle, Jauz and anything else we want to chuck, jive, and liquid boogie-woogie to.  Sunday is fully equipped for a smashing finale catching a rare State-side appearance from The Chemical Brothers. For a taste of Chicago’s underground goodness we must see Green Velvet in all of his “Lazer Beams” hometown glory. And of course we can’t get enough of the addicting, cutting edge sound of Snails.

11899907_1141910029156906_1696906221423491869_nNorth Coast enlisted talent from some of Chicago’s top designers this year to bring you an amazing spread of clothing including Jugrnaut Clothing, the go-to store for progressive hiphop fashion in Chicago; and Chicago designer/illustrator on the rise, Benjamn Marasco.  They are also bringing back hats from Grassroots California and Pins from Roots Rock Rage.  Posters from Fugscreens Studios are also in the works!
